OSRS Bonds, Membership, and Runecoins

Content

There's more than one way to buy a membership from Jagex. One of these is by buying OSRS bonds. Read on to know more about this unique item that has helped change OSRS's economy and how players get access to exclusive content.

What are OSRS Bonds?

An OSRS bond is an item bought from Jagex using real-life money, which can be spent in-game for membership. It can also be traded with other players, which means you can use them to buy OSRS gold with real money.

Aside from the uses mentioned earlier, bonds can also be spent on a display name change. While this can be done for free every 28 days in your account settings (provided you are a member), having an OSRS bond saves you the wait.

The number of membership days obtained through an OSRS bond depends on how many are used. For example, one bond yields 14 days, two yield 29 days, and three give 45 days. The extra days you get for paying more bonds are meant to encourage players to buy and use three when they're signing up for membership.

Bonds can also be used to pay for Premier Club membership. Bronze lasts 90 days and costs 5 bonds, Silver for 180 days costs 10 bonds, and gold for 360 days costs 20 bonds. For Premium, you don't get any additional days for purchasing a longer length of membership, so choosing a Premium Membership tier will boil down to convenience.

How to Buy OSRS Bonds

If you have plans to buy OSRS bonds, it would be best to buy them from other players using real-life money or in-game gold. With the former, sellers will sell them to you at a lower price, as they want to make sure that you buy from them instead of Jagex. The same goes with sellers here at PlayerAuctions.

As for gold, transactions happen either by trading directly or through the Grand Exchange. Pay attention to the Grand Exchange prices to ensure the OSRS bond price is worth the money. On the other hand, since you can also buy OSRS bonds with gold, you can indirectly purchase them by buying gold first and then OSRS bonds after.

How to Sell OSRS Bonds

Perhaps you're looking to sell OSRS bonds instead of buying them. If you're selling them for gold, either you trade with players directly or go through the Grand Exchange.

If you're selling it for money, the best place to do so would be PlayerAuctions. Simply log in or register and follow the prompt for selling OSRS items.

What Do I Get with Membership?

OSRS paid memberships to get access to more in-game features than free-to-play players. Quests, locations, skills, abilities, equipment, and minigames are available to members.

Quests

They can be the lifeblood of any RPG. They help players level up their characters or skills, but they assist in telling the story about the world. OSRS has about a hundred and thirty quests; however, a majority are only available to members.

Locations

Members can access a larger world than free-to-play. There are more towns and dungeons. Several transportation systems are accessible to travel faster, such as higher-level teleporting skills and the use of spirit trees.

Here are some of the areas that are accessible to members:

  • Morytania - is a swampland often associated with the dark arts. It is rife with vile beings like vampyres, witches, werewolves, the undead, and other related folks. Its capital, Hallowvale, has been surrounded by a wall and turned into a blood farm.
  • Kharidian Desert – a vast arid region south of Misthalin and Morytania, players must drink from either available sources or waterskins when traveling through the desert. Failure to do so will cause players to lose HP and eventually die.
  • Kandarin – one of the largest kingdoms in Gielinor, it is wealthy and among the land's most powerful. However, it is not without its problems. In true adventurer tradition, you'll take it upon yourself to solve some of these problems.
  • Tirannwn – a forest area to the west of Kandarin, is the region that elves inhabit. It's also a dangerous place, so it requires level 56 Agility. Make sure to bring along some anti-poisons.

While not entirely exclusive for members, some areas do not give full access to free-to-play players.

  • Karamja – the largest island in Gielinor, has rather enjoyable tropical weather. For free-to-play players, only a tiny part of the island is accessible.
  • Asgarnia – one of Gielinor's most important kingdoms.

Skills

Out of the twenty-three talents in OSRS, eight are available only for members. The skills include:

  1. Agility
  2. Construction
  3. Farming
  4. Fletching
  5. Herblore
  6. Hunter
  7. Thieving
  8. Slayer

Agility and thieving allow access to previously inaccessible areas and alternate entrances, exits, and shortcuts. Construction, fletching, and herblore let players create houses, ammunition, ranged weapons, and potions. Hunter and slayer abilities unlock different equipment and capacity to craft. In addition, the slayer skill set opens new monsters and alternative ways to defeat them.

On top of the new skills, you also gain new capabilities in free-to-play skills. For example, those with membership get to make Dragonstone and Onyx Jewelry with Crafting, create claws and crossbow arms, and access Coal Trucks for Mining.

Abilities

That is, utilizing the capabilities of higher-level skills, which could require the use of members-only items. Free-to-play gamers can raise their skills to 99. However, they are limited in their use of capabilities the higher levels unlock. Dragon armor or weapons usage is unlocked at level 60 for individual skills, but the equipment can only be for members.

Equipment

There is more stuff for members only. Free players may obtain specific equipment, but they can't use it. Some examples are the dragon stuff, as said earlier, and the barrows and granite gear.

Minigames

Small co-op, competitive, or solo games are available only worlds exclusively for members. Small games are proper ways to raise skill levels or gain equipment. There are roughly 29 minigames. Aside from being fun boredom beaters, they're also a great way to grind skills. Some examples include are the following:

  • Agility Pyramid – a great way to earn money and level up Agility.
  • Barbarian Assault – a combat minigame that gives players the chance to unlock new armor.
  • •Barrows – a rather challenging minigame that rewards you with the Barrows armor, one of the best in the game.

How to Become a Member

How does someone become a member to gain the nuts and bolts of OSRS? Well, gamers either purchase a subscription from the site or buy an OSRS Bond, which is available in one month, three months, or year durations. The bond lasts for two weeks, but players can acquire them with in-game gold if they don't want to spend real money.

Gamers can trade with players or allow bonds to be given as gifts or swapped with another item. Since most of the game's content is for members, bonds are highly valued. Price doesn't usually go lower than the 2 million gold mark.

Isn't buying a bond worth it with the benefits and extra features? Technically, it's free since virtual money is spent instead of real money. The real problem is gathering a substantial amount of gold. Some buy gold with real money and then use that money to purchase bonds. It's very convenient, and anyone can easily do it with PlayerAuctions.

However, depending on the seller's rates, it could be more expensive than acquiring a subscription directly. RuneScape Bonds only last two weeks, and then you have to use another one again. The subscription lasts longer and may have more value for money compared to bonds.

What are Runecoins?

Other than membership, you can also use OSRS bonds to purchase Runecoins. These items are used to buy purely cosmetic items in Solomon's General Store, the game's cash shop. One OSRS bond can get you 195 Runecoins. At that exchange rate, it's hard to say no to spending your bonds on Runecoins.

Gold may be necessary in Gielinor, but you can enjoy even more things with OSRS bonds. So, what are you waiting for? Start earning those bonds so you can have access to everything Gielinor has to offer.

Parting Words

At the end of the day, it's up to the player how they want to spend their real or in-game money. Whether they play without paying, bought the membership directly, paid, or gathered gold for Old School RuneScape Bonds, gamers are playing the game in the way they enjoy. Anyway, the game encourages players to find a way to advance and enjoy the game. At any rate, no matter how you play, enjoy the game!
