OSRS Slayer Helm Guide

osrs slayer helm guide

The Slayer Helm is an item that’s sure to make your life while training Slayer better since it will improve the accuracy and, therefore, your overall damage and speed when killing monsters. While the regular Slayer Helm only affects your melee, its upgraded variant, the imbued Slayer Helm, will also affect your magic and ranged attack styles, and this makes it the best-in-slot item for almost all of the monsters you can kill on a Slayer task. The requirements for the Slayer helm are 55 crafting along with 400 Slayer points and the means to get its components. This gives the 58 Slayer level requirement for Ironman accounts to obtain the black mask. To wear it, you’ll need level 10 defence.

Slayer Helm Limitations

The Slayer Helm and Imbued Slayer Helm will only give you an increase in accuracy against the Slayer monsters on your current Slayer task. This means you will not benefit from the bonus damage if you wear it while killing other monsters besides those assigned to you.

How to Make Slayer Helm OSRS

To make the Slayer Helm, you must first unlock the ability to create one with the Slayer purchase Malevolent Masquerade, which costs 400 Slayer points. If you’re in a rush toward this, unlock.

To obtain the necessary Slayer points fast, you can do the Turael skipping method in which you take 9 consecutive tasks from Turael and the 10th from the highest Slayer master you can access. Krystilia cannot be used for this method as her streak is separate, but you can do the early Wilderness task. However, with this, you will expose yourself to the risk of PKers or the pleasure of PvP, depending on your preference.

Once you obtain the 400 points, go to any slayer master and right-click them, then click rewards, and search for the Malevolent Masquerade unlock and purchase it. Even though the Slayer helm is a massive upgrade, it is recommended that you spend your first 100 points on getting the “badder and better” unlock since this will give you a chance to spawn superior Slayer monsters whenever on a task that has a superior variant and these superior monsters will give you more Slayer XP and more loot.

How to Craft Slayer Helm OSRS

Since the Slayer Helm is an untradeable item, you can only get it by crafting it. Once you’ve purchased the Slayer unlock, make sure your crafting level is 55 or close to it. As an ironman, you can quickly get a poison chalice from Stankers near Seers Village, but it is not guaranteed to increase your crafting level by +1. It is not worth using the orange spice stew, which is also not guaranteed to increase your crafting level, but if it does, it can increase it by +5. On a regular account, you can simply get a Mushroom pie from the GE, but this is much harder to obtain as an ironman since you will need level 65 Woodcutting and level 60 Cooking for it, but it is still an option.

To craft the Slayer Helm, you will then need the following items:

  • Black mask
  • Earmuffs
  • Facemask
  • Nose peg
  • Spiny helmet
  • Enchanted gem
  • Reinforced goggles

Except for the Black mask, you can purchase all of the other items from any Slayer Master. You can also get most of them, including the Black mask, via the GE, but you will still have to visit a slayer master to get the enchanted gem and the reinforced goggles. However, you will only need the goggles after completing the Porcine of Interest quest.

How to Get A Slayer Helm OSRS

After you have all the required items, simply take them in your inventory and right-click use on any of them on any other components.

OSRS Imbued Slayer Helm

Once you make the Slayer Helm, the next step is imbuing it, even though you can use it as it is if you’re using melee. If you plan to use magic or ranged when doing Slayer, you should imbue your Slayer helm.

The stats of the slayer helm are almost identical to those of the imbued slayer helm. Still, the imbued version will give you positive magic and range attack bonus (+3 for both compared to -6 and -2 on the regular Slayer helm) and a +10 magic defence bonus compared to -1 on the basic Slayer Helm.

The bonus damage against the current slayer task is where the difference is enormous. On top of the 16,67 percent bonus melee damage and accuracy on both variants, with the Imbued Slayer Helm, you’ll get 15 percent bonus damage for Magic and Ranged accuracy and damage.

Most players aim to imbue their Slayer Helm when they hit the requirements to craft one. There are currently three ways to imbue your Slayer Helm: an AFK method, a non-AFK method, and a PvP method.

AFK Imbue Method

If you prefer an AFK approach to imbuing your Slayer Helm, you should obtain Nightmare Zone points. You can AFK this minigame by using the minigame-specific absorption potions and a dwarven rock cake or locator orb to lower your hp to 1 in the customizable rumble.

Obtaining the necessary points this way will take several hours, but very effortless since NMZ is where you can AFK for up to 20 minutes. You will need a total of 1250k NMZ points, and you will also level your combat in the process. To access the minigame, you must have completed some quests and pay a 26k GP entry fee.

Active Imbue Method

If you want something more active, you can go to the Soulwars minigame. You will need level 40 combat and a minimum of 500 levels total. You will need to hop on one of the Soulwars worlds, and you’ll get a team and enter the combat-based minigame to do various activities, including PvP.

PvP Imbue Method

You can buy a scroll of imbuing for 200 points from the Emir’s Arena reward shop. This is the fastest method as you will get a minimum of 12 points even if you lose for each match, which takes roughly 5 minutes. With the waiting time between matches, you should expect to get the scroll in 2-3 hours, even if you lose all the matches.

OSRS Slayer Helm Vs. Void

Even though Elite Void is a great armour, there is only one high-level situation in which you can use the Slayer Helm, but you’ll output more damage with Void and Salve Amulet, which is Vorkath. Even when you’re on a Blue Dragons Slayer task, because of the undead bonus damage given by the Salve Amulet, you’ll have better picks than the Slayer helm since the bonus damage doesn’t stack.

If you’re going to range Vorkath, use the Void set or Masori and not the Imbued Slayer Helm, but otherwise, always use the Slayer Helm.

Slayer Helm Vs. Neitiznot OSRS

Similarly, there are no notable boss exceptions besides Vorkath and Vet’ion, the only two undead bosses you can kill with melee while on a Slayer task. There are also a few other undead monsters you might kill on task and where bringing the helm of Netiznot and Salve will be better than the Slayer Helm:

  • Ankou
  • Crawling Hand
  • Ghost
  • Revenants
  • Shade
  • Skeleton
  • Undead chicken
  • Undead cow
  • Undead Druid
  • Zogre
  • Zombie

For other undead creatures such as Banshee or Aberrant specters, you will need to use the Slayer Helm even though the damage from the salve would be greater since their special attacks would kill you without the appropriate protective gear, nose peg, earmuffs or the Slayer Helm.

OSRS Slayer Helm Cosmetic Upgrades

There are 10 possible cosmetic upgrades for the Slayer Helm or Imbued Slayer Helm. For some of them, you will need to purchase slayer unlocks that cost 1000 points each, while others come as a reward for completing various tiers of combat achievements. Besides the points necessary to unlock the ability to create these cosmetic upgrades, you will also need rare items that are often untradeable.

Black Slayer Helm

  • Unlock the king black bonnet for 1000 Slayer points, and use KBD heads on your Slayer Helm to make it black.
  • The KBD heads have a 1 in 128 drop chance from King Black Dragon.
  • You’ll need a short walk in a Wilderness hotspot to get to KBD’s lair.

Green Slayer helm

  • Unlock Kalphite for 1000 Slayer points and use a KQ head on your Slayer Helm to make it green.
  • The KQ head has a 1 in 128 drop chance from the Kalphite Queen.
  • You’ll need another head to complete the Elite Desert Diary, which is the optimal way to go since the diary will allow you to use a shortcut within her lair to reduce the running distance at level 86 Agility drastically.
  • You are guaranteed a tattered KQ head at 256KC, but this one can only be used for stuffing for the elite desert diary.

Red Slayer Helm

  • Unlock the Unholy Helmet for 1000 slayer points, and use an abyssal demon head on your slayer helm to make it red.
  • The Abyssal Demon Head can be obtained from Abyssal Demons, which requires a level 85 Slayer to kill at a rate of 1 in 6000, or from the boss variant, the abyssal sire. However, the Abyssal sire won’t directly drop the head.

Purple Slayer Helm

  • Unlock Dark Mantle for 1000 Slayer points and use a dark claw on your Slayer Helm to make it purple.
  • The dark claw has a 1 in 25 drop chance from Skotizo. However, to be able to fight Skotizo in the first place, you will need a dark totem. The dark totem is formed by combining its three components: the dark totem's middle, top, and bottom. Each piece is guaranteed to drop from superior slayer monsters and has a likelihood to drop otherwise between 1 in 185 and 1 in 471.

Turquoise Slayer Helm

  • Unlock Undead Head for 1000 slayer points and use a Vorkath’s head on your slayer helm to make it turquoise
  • The Vorkath’s head has a 1 in 50 drop chance from Vorkath.
  • To kill Vorkath, you will need a high combat level and to have completed the Dragon Slayer 2 quest.
  • Remember that you will also need a head for the range upgrade Ava’s assembler, so you should prioritize using the guaranteed drop you’ll get on the 50th kill.

Hydra Slayer Helm

  • Unlock Use More Heads for 1000 Slayer points and use an Alchemical Hydra head on your Slayer Helm to make it look like a Hydra head.
  • The Alchemical Hydra head has a 1 in 256 drop chance from the Alchemical Hydra.
  • To kill the Alchemical Hydra, you will need a hydra or Alchemical Hydra task. Only Konar can give you a hydra task, but you have a small likelihood of getting an alchemical hydra task from the other slayer masters who assign boss tasks after unlocking like a boss.
  • You will need at least level 95 Slayer to receive a Hydra or Alchemical Hydra task.

Twisted Slayer Helm

  • Unlock Twisted Vision for 1000 Slayer points and use a pair of twisted horns on your Slayer Helm to make it twisted.
  • The Twisted Horns are a reward obtained from the Twisted leagues, and they are tradeable so that you can obtain them from the GE for around 2 million GP.

Tztok Slayer Helmet

  • You won’t need to unlock a Slayer perk for this one.
  • You must complete the elite tier of the combat achievements and claim your rewards before obtaining it.
  • Bring an Imbued Slayer Helm to Ghommal just outside the Warrior’s guild to get it cosmetically upgraded to a Tztok Slayer Helm.

Vampiric Slayer Helmet

  • You won’t need to unlock a Slayer perk for this one.
  • You will need to complete the master tier of the combat achievements and claim your rewards before obtaining them.
  • Bring an imbued Slayer helm to Ghommal just outside the Warrior’s guild to get it cosmetically upgraded to a Vampiric Slayer Helm.

Tzkal Slayer Helmet

  • You won’t need to unlock a Slayer perk for this one.
  • You must complete the grandmaster tier of the combat achievements and claim your rewards before obtaining it.
  • Bring an Imbued Slayer Helm to Ghommal just outside the Warrior’s guild to get it cosmetically upgraded to a Tzkal Slayer Helm.
